In 2018, after I graduated from St. Peter’s Senior High School, it was time for me to look into what I would study at the university with the help of my parents. Honestly speaking, there were so many options, even as there is today. I was confused, not knowing what to do. Some of my family members tried to use my academic excellence from school to make me sign up for medical school at the university. But after thinking about it for a while, I realised that I can’t stand blood for too long. So, I proceeded to research other career areas more. It turned out that I wanted to go into IT, but I was oblivious to how broad it was (and still is). So, I signed up for a BSc in computer science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Attended a web developer training
I was a fresher at the university, only focused on attending lectures. Hearing words like “algorithm,” “functions,” and “code” was entirely new to me. I remember leaving class one day and thinking, “Where am I?” Poor me. But over time, I mastered the courage to complete this course in the space of four years, which I did.
Some of my senior coursemates once invited me and my classmates to a one-meeting web developer training session with WordPress technology held in the department’s computer lab. So I signed up for it. They really did well but only covered the basics of WordPress, so I felt it was not enough.
Later, I had one idea to build my first website on localhost with my then “not-so-good” laptop. I managed to make up something, but it was too bad to think of. Years passed as I tried to modify the work, especially on vacation. Sometimes, I spent nights trying to understand something small about this WordPress technology. Today, I’m glad that it paid off.
Launching my first website project
In November 2021, I managed to use my long vacation off school to build an improved version of the first website I created years ago. Upon researching, especially on YouTube, the website looked better after selecting good themes and plugins and learning from Udemy courses. Even though I have worked hard to improve that website to date, I am happy to say that www.bibledaily.net, the first website I created, has surpassed over 100,000 all-time views and over 70,000 all-time visitors.
Believe in yourself
As time went on since November 2021, with the improvements on my website, I decided to build another one for myself to post Christian articles in 2023. And for that, I didn’t struggle at all. Over time, as others started to see my work, they wanted to contact me to build their websites for them, which I have done, especially from late 2023 to 2024.
Whatever you start will be worse on day 1. But if you don’t give up and learn little by little using a project, you’ll keep improving. Remember that no project is too complex. Just analyse it, break down the tasks into smaller ones and take them on one by one. You’ll surely reach up there. This has been my journey so far.
All the best to you.
